The Santo Volunteer Fire Department proudly serves a 114 square mile area in the southeastern portion of Palo Pinto County.   We are located approximately 61 miles west of Fort Worth and approximately 192 miles north/northwest of Austin.

The department operates out of two stations and has five units - Squad 1301, Engine 1302, Medic 1303, Medic 1304, and Brush 1305.

Santo VFD provides a full range of services to our community including:

Santo VFD’s membership is made up entirely of volunteers who respond 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to alarms, fires, motor vehicle accidents, public assistance calls, etc. These men and women possess certifications ranging from Emergency Care Attendant (ECA) (First Responder) to Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Paramedic and freely offer their skills, time, and talents to provide protection and peace of mind to the residents of Santo.



As is emblazoned on our equipment and apparel, we do it “So That Others May Live”.

 
Wildlands comprise much of Santo and its surrounding areas.    This, coupled with increasingly dry and windy conditions (click here for a discussion of this phenomenon), has made wildland fire a predominant threat to the region.  As a result, Santo VFD is often involved in the suppression and containment of this type of fire.

Fighting uncontrolled wildland fire is extremely complex and potentially very dangerous.  Highly specialized crews and equpment are often required in the effort.  If you have read our news stories, you have seen pictures of some of these resources in action.  For example, the above image shows a "Helitack Crew" pouring water onto the Jackson Wildfire (Palo Pinto County - July 2006)  from a "Bambi Bucket".
